Pig Destroyer's New Video Is Bananas.

Pig Destroyer released Book Burner this week. If you checked out the stream last week, you already know it's unbelievably awesome. If you didn't, at least peep the newly released video for The Diplomat , premiered today by the fine folks at Noisey. It's got space monkeys, green blood, a mysterious briefcase... why are you still reading? Oh, it's also probably the most accessible song on the album, which should tell you that you want it. Book Burner is out now on Relapse.

Year in Rock 2012: Find it Here November 1 - December 26

For the few who remember why I started this blog in the first place, it gives me great joy to announce that artist nominations for YEAR IN ROCK 2012 are now in the process of being whittled down from 75 to 50. It's really kind of a sludgy process, what with the deciding which third of my nominees get unceremoniously cut and then the deciding which song by artists that do make the cut to profile. Not to mention what will win my year end awards for song and album of the year... Anyway, the format for this year will be the same as it was last year. A nominee will be announced daily over a 50-day period, in the order their albums and/or singles were released chronologically. A short write-up, a link to the nominated song, profit! Year in Rock 2012 nomination posts run from November 1 to December 20. Honourable mentions go up December 21. Song of the Year goes up December 22, while Album of the Year will be revealed on December 26. If you've followed the blog closely over the

Yesterday, I made mention of the fact that next week's releases mark one hell of a smorgasbord for folks who like their music on the heavy side. Well, the Trail of Dead and Stone Sour albums both mark probably the respective bands' fiercest efforts, but they're Ace of Base compared to today's offering.

This is the time of year when big rock releases slow down, making way for a month of big pop releases before we all get a couple months off to reflect on the year that was. 2012 is shaping up just a bit differently; there are a couple of powerhouse releases out on November 13 (Soundgarden and Green Day), plus one that won't sell as much but has me more excited than the powerhouses (Deftones). So no, next week isn't really the last big week of the year for rock fans. However, if you love heavy music, it's like Christmas for you. And yes, I'm about to make a terrible joke; Christmas has come early.

Potpourri: This Might Take A Couple Of Hours

Jeez Louise, I go away for two days and the news just piles up. I have no excuse, however, for all the other stuff over the past two weeks that I neglected and/or forgot. Anyway, first on the docket is a brand new single from How To Destroy Angels, the musical brainchild of Mr. & Mrs. Trent Reznor. In lieu of new NIN (which, as we've been assured, is in the pipeline), Keep It Together serves an admirable purpose of tiding us longtime fans over.
