IN REVIEW: Monster Truck - "True Rockers"

There's something inherently campy and fun about Monster Truck, who have built a reputation for their hard chugging, denim clad rock and roll; on their third album, they recognize this and run with it. From the album artwork that looks like it should adorn the side of a classic van to the guest appearance by Twisted Sister's Dee Snider, everything about True Rockers is designed to scratch that nostalgic hard rock itch.

There's very little that's modern about True Rockers, and that isn't really a bad thing. Big riffs, screaming solos and arena-sized singalongs are the order of the day, and this album delivers on all fronts; over the course of 40 minutes, True Rockers rarely takes a moment to breathe, keeping the energy going for the most part with a couple of lighters-up moments to mix it up.

Though it's a bit of a step back from 2016's Furiosity, and I personally would have liked to hear Monster Truck branch out a bit more like they did on that record, I can't exactly fault them for playing to their strengths. They know their niche, and True Rockers is a record that's tailor made for that niche.
